這枚頂針明明是愛麗絲口袋裡拿出來的，卻又當成獎品頒贈給愛麗絲，作者在此似乎暗示，在政黨政治之下政府向人民納稅，然後又將稅金當獎品賜給人民，難怪愛麗絲覺得非常荒謬……

[說明]這則注釋譯自The Annotated Alice, The Definitive Alice 頁31，但無說明出處：

The thimble, taken from Alice and then returned to her, may symbolize the way governments take taxes from the pockets of citizens, then return the money in the form of political projects.

翻譯把原文then return the money in the form of political projects譯為「然後又將稅金當獎品賜給人民」，顯然是錯誤的翻譯，「政府向人民納稅」看出來是筆誤，應是「政府向人民徵稅」。
